When you think of hormone imbalance you typically think of menopause or symptoms you may start experiencing in your 40’s or 50’s. The reality is, is that many women have begun to notice hormonal changes earlier in life. This may be due to lifestyle, pollution, toxins and synthetic chemicals that we’re exposed to every day.
Hormone imbalances can be recognized through symptoms such as weight gain, muscle loss, low libido, fatigue, depression or anxiety, excessive sweating and cravings. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms it may be time to get those hormones balanced. Always talk to your health care professional first if you think something is off. There are, however, a few natural remedies that may help balance things out and are definitely worth a try!
1. Get More Sleep
If your hormones are imbalanced you may feel like you need way more that the recommended 8 hours. To get on a better sleeping schedule go to bed and wake up at the same time each day. Set an alarm for both times to keep you on track.
Create a relaxing sleep environment with comfy bedding and room darkening curtains. Creating night time rituals like a soothing epsom bath or evening meditation can help calm muscles and nerves!
2. Detox Your Environment
The household products we use on a daily basis can sometimes wreak havoc on our hormones. By eliminating toxic chemicals from your environment you can help balance your hormones naturally.
Avoid plastics, cleaners with harmful chemicals, and artificial fragrances – these may contain hormone disrupting chemicals. Instead, choose natural cleaning products or make your own, use a glass or metal water bottle instead of plastic and avoid using scented candles or air fresheners.
3. Eat Good Food
Eating high quality foods rich in nutrients is vital for proper hormone balance. Focus on high quality lean proteins (organic, grass fed, non-GMO), healthy fats (oils, seeds, nuts) and lots of organic vegetables and fruits.
Avoid sugars, caffeine, processed foods, saturated and trans fats as much as possible.
Hormone imbalances can be frustrating and you shouldn’t need to put up with the symptoms! These recommendations may be a good place to start when it comes to balancing your hormones. There are many home remedies and treatments out there – what have you tried and what’s worked best for you?
