If you’re trying to cut back on calories and avoid artificial ingredients, you can still add flavor to your coffee naturally! I am a huge coffee fan but drinking it black isn’t always my favorite option. Here are a few ways to add a kick to your morning java – while sticking to your clean eating habits.
1. Spice it Up
Add ground spices directly into your coffee grounds before brewing. Your coffee will come out infused with rich spice and flavor. Give cinnamon, nutmeg and/or cardamom a try
2. Keep it Simple
Make your own simple syrups at home by combining equal parts water with coconut sugar (or raw honey) Bring to a simmer and stir frequently until sugar dissolves. Once dissolved add in spices, herbs and/or extracts. Remove from heat and let sit for 1-2 hours. Try vanilla bean and pure vanilla extract. yum!
3. Make it a Mocha
In a small sauce pan steam almond milk and drop in a few dark chocolate or carob chips. Stir until melted and add to your coffee for a rich creamy treat.
4. Chill Out
Try a cold brew for a more refreshing option! Brew an extra strong batch of coffee in a french press and let it sit in the fridge overnight. In the morning press the coffee and then pour over ice and top with almond milk, a sprinkle of cinnamon and a teaspoon of homemade simple syrup.
