Many people believe that they can crunch, twist or plank their way to a flat, toned midsection. However, without a proper nutritional foundation, many stomach toning exercises are going to fall short. If you are on a mission to get the best abs possible, it will be key for you to combine an effective exercise plan with a solid diet. Below are five nutritional habits that I recommend practicing to perfect that mid-section
Besides being essential for life and supporting numerous vital body functions, water is also required for optimal fat burning! Failing to drink your daily dose of eight glasses of water per day can slow down your metabolism and lower the total amount of calories you are able to work off on a daily basis. In addition, staying hydrated suppresses your appetite and reduces the chances of “over snacking” on unhealthy foods between meals.
Eat your Veggies
Vegetables are perfect for aiding in fat loss food. They are low in calories and packed full of essential nutrients which help to support your body and ensure that your metabolism doesn’t slow down! Veggies are simple. They are versatile enough to go with most dishes so incorporating them in to your diet is key in accelerating fat loss!
Say No to Processed Foods
If you’re goal is to lose stomach fat and tighten up that mid section, processed foods are one of the worst possible things you can eat. They are typically loaded with calories and other unnatural ingredients that can interfere with fat loss. Start eliminating any processed foods that are currently in your diet with fresh fish, lean meats, fruits, nuts, seeds and vegetables- all of which are whole natural foods that will build the perfect foundation for burning fat, boosting metabolism and sculpting those abs!
Go easy on the Carbs
Carbohydrates are an essential nutrient that provides your body with energy so you never want to cut them out completely. However, if you over do it and consume more carbohydrates than your body needs, the excess carbs will get stored as body fat. To avoid this from happening, make sure that no more than 30% of your daily calories come from carbohydrates. This can easily be achieved by cutting out processed carbohydrates-such as white pasta and white rice and consuming only whole, natural carbohydrates- such as whole grains, fruits and vegetables.
Supplement for Proper Digestion
If you have a stubborn digestive system and changing your diet alone hasn’t made any significant improvements there are a few other “tricks” I suggest that may help with indigestion or bloating. (remember to always check with your health care professional before trying anything new!)
Firstly-digestive enzymes. These help your body to properly break down food and absorb nutrients. Secondly- probiotics. They are micro-organisms that replace beneficial bacterias that help prevent digestive problems. Lastly, apple cider vinegar. This secret weapon has a wide range of beneficial uses but in regards to helping flatten out the tummy, a tablespoon a day mixed with juice or water will help you to feel full and satisfied for longer which prevents over eating.
